Medication

Medication and the Bible

“On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”” Matthew 7:28 NIV

Well you get the chance to know a little more about me. I currently am being treated for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), due to my service in the United States Military. I am currently taking Clonazepam 1 mg a day, Sertraline 50mg a day, Vitamin D3 and I just got Divalproex 250mg a day in the mail. Needless to say I will be getting a liver test before I start on the Divalproex, due to the problems it can cause.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22 NIV. Other than this verse I see nothing about medications in the Bible.

Let us take a look at 1 Corinthians 12:28 “And to the church God has appointed …, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others.”

For it is written: “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There is different kind of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.” 1 Corinthians 12:4 NIV.

I pray for healing, but maybe the healing that is meant for me might just be medication. Who am I to question the Holy Spirit? If God created man and through mans actions diseases where founded. Why couldn’t the Holy Spirit also, give man the ability to create medications as part of “gifts of healing”? Again, I say who am I to question the Holy Spirit?

In conclusion I feel lead to believe that medication may be a form of the gift of healing. I feel a whole lot better since I let Christ back into my life, but I am not all fixed to say. Who am I to question what the lord as in store for me?

Many cultures have used plants to cure problems in the past. Those plants didn’t get created by chance.

In closing on this matter I feel you should let the Holy Spirit guide you. As for me I feel this is part of the Lords why of waking me up and to be honest with you, I would not be able to do this blog without the help of the medications and the driving force of the Holy Spirit.

  1. I totally agree with what you say. Speaking as a nurse who is also a christian I do believe God uses His people and His creation to do His will. God provided plants for medications and people to be His hands in helping those who are sick.
    God bless,
